Throwing off the hump for intermediate wheel throwers
Throw off the hump! In this class you will learn an alternative wheel throwing technique called throwing off the hump. Rather than center individual balls of clay on new bats, throwing off the hump teaches you to roughly center a larger mound and work with the top portion to create a series of small pieces. Once you wire off your piece, you repeat the process until the mound has been used. You do not need to know how to perfectly center larger pieces of clay in advance. The top portion you will use to throw a piece will be a very manageable size.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE REGISTERING
IMPORTANT! THIS CLASS DOES NOT INCLUDE CLAY!
Be prepared to purchase clay at Old Masonic Hall the day of the class prior the start of class. Clay bodies purchased outside of Breck Create are NOT permitted. You may also use the clay that you’ve previously purchased from us for open studio.
Ceramics is a multi-step process that takes many weeks for a completed glazed project. Kiln firings occur when there is enough work to fill the kiln. For ceramic glazing instructions and techniques, please consider taking the ceramics glazing class to complete your projects. We also do not ship completed projects back to those who created them.
