Learn the history and significance of the dance to Día de Muertos. The Mexican Grupo Huiziloptchli has been in the Denver area for 40 years and was formed under the direction of Capitan Raul Chavez a 5th generation danzante from Mazatlan Mexico.
Participants will be able to join in one of the grupos sacred dances.
Día de Muertos demonstrates a strong sense of love and respect for one’s ancestors, celebrates the continuance of life, family relationships, and community solidarity, and allows people to talk about and find humor in death.
The Aztec Dance grupo Huitzilopochtli has created a special Aztec show, based on Aztec mythology, to celebrate Día de Muertos. The dancers perform the Battle Dance which features two Aztec warriors. When one of the warriors perishes, his soul is greeted by another soul who leads him to his next life in the Aztec underworld of Mictlan, where the dead dwell. The sequence ends when the souls who reside in Mictlan perform the Día de Muertos Dance.

Aprende la historia y el significado de la danza del Día de Muertos. El Grupo de baile Mexicano Huiziloptchli ha estado en el área de Denver durante 40 años y se formó bajo la dirección del Capitán Raúl Chávez, un bailarín de quinta generación de Mazatlán México.
Los participantes podrán unirse a una de las danzas más sagradas del grupo.
El Día de Muertos manifiesta un fuerte sentido de amor y respeto por los antepasados, celebra la continuidad de la vida, las relaciones familiares y la solidaridad de la comunidad, y permite a la gente hablar y encontrar humor en la muerte. Los participantes podrán unirse a una de las danzas sagradas de los grupos.
