This summer, during BIFA (Breckenridge International Festival of Arts), I stopped for a rare quiet moment on the bank of the Blue River in the Alpine Garden. Local wellness practitioners, dressed as fairies, were moving through a sound bath with chimes and singing bowls. As I sat in the grass, a young couple walked up with a bucket and fishing poles. They were there to rescue fish stranded in the last pools of a river running dry.
And there it was: the connection between art and place. Between creativity, environment, and action.
That’s what Breck Create is here to do: support artists, spark creativity, and create opportunities for people to connect with art, themselves and each other. This year, that looked like giant blue birds on Main Street and a stage powered by bicycles at BIFA. It looked like celebrating the cultures and identities that make our community stronger through Día de los Muertos + Latin Festival and Breck Pride. It looked like free AirStage concerts where neighbors gather, and after-school arts experiences where kids explore their creativity while parents finish their workday. These experiences are about more than art. They’re about creating a place where everyone feels welcome, where young people can thrive, and where we find new ways to connect with the people and place we call home.
As I step into this next chapter of leadership, I’m excited about what we can build together. In 2027, we’re committed to another exceptional year of programming, bringing more music to our stages, activating our Arts District, and creating experiences that reflect and connect our community. As we look ahead, your support helps ensure that arts and culture remain a vital part of what makes Breckenridge home.
